Sense and purpose:

  • The enlarged support base of the screw prevents pressure points on the rear trim strip.
  • The ratchet screw locks itself on the sealing washer and no longer rattles itself loose
  • The sealing washer prevents water ingress

Why 18 pcs. ?
The early series Opel GT came from the factory with 18 mounting holes for the rear trim.
The late series Opel GT then had only 10 mounting holes.
Time is money ! Presumably this change was a suggestion from someone at the factory.
Because this fiddling work was still done by hand and not by a production robot.
